Each year, Episcopalians gather at the Capitol with Bishop Betsey Monnot and fellow Episcopalians and advocate for public policy with our legislators. We go over some bills before the General Assembly, look at where our diocese stands on them, hear from lawmakers, and then each have an opportunity to try to meet face to face with our senators and representatives to share our positions with them. Whether it’s your first time at the Capitol or you’d consider yourself a “regular,” all are welcome to join!
This year, we’re excited to join with our Lutheran siblings and friends from the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa for several parts of the day.
Our time together:
11am-Noon: in Room 305 - tips and how-too information on speaking with lawmakers - from Interfaith Alliance
Noon - 1pm: Lunch & tour
1-2pm: in Room 305 - Episcopalians meet with Episcopal legislators (schedule permitting)
2-3pm: apply our learnings & lobby legislators
Finding Room 305: From the center of the ground floor, take the north hallway past the cafeteria and the stairs to find the north elevator in an alcove on the right. Take the elevator to Floor 3. After leaving the elevator, go LEFT and back around the corner to Room 305. You can also take the stairs from the basement up to the 3rd floor (it’s a long way up!) and find Room 305 past the elevator.
You can come and go as needed, so do not worry too much about the time frame.
