The Daughters of the King is an
international lay order for women who take vows of daily prayer and service after a period of guided study. The Daughters pray daily for the Bishop, Staff and Clergy. Twice a year (September and March) the Daughters of the King meet at the Diocesan level for spiritual growth and inspiration and to develop community among the members. Women who are not members of the Order are welcome to participate in the Order’s retreats. For a number of years, have furnished the Quiet Room for prayer and meditation during the Diocesan Convention.

Iowa Cursillo

Cursillo is a Spanish term for “short course in Christianity.” The weekend begins on Thursday night and concludes on Sunday afternoon. It is a laity directed weekend with Clergy advisors and speakers. There are a series of talks given by the laity, and some by Clergy members. Most people find it to be, at some point in the weekend, a spiritual re-awakening; for some, it’s a first step in their spiritual journey; for others, a life-changing experience.

There are table groups of “families” that bond over the course of 4 days that listen to and discuss the talks that are given. It’s usually held at a church where “dorms” are set up to spend the night. There is music, fellowship and great food. There is laughter, tears, mountain-top experiences, and prayer. The weekend is designed to give all the candidates a taste of Christ’s unconditional love through prayer, sacrifice and a few surprises during the weekend. The weekend does not actually end on Sunday, but rather it’s a beginning, taking what is learned and experienced during the weekend and taking that into the world to give others a taste of Christ’s unconditional love.

Iowa Episcopal Clergy Association

Currently the Iowa Clergy Association is in the process of making a revival. After a number of "sluggish" years, the Association is assessing the positives of again representing Iowa Clergy to the National Association of Clergy. When completed the Iowa Association will focus on multiple issues important to the clergy of Iowa such as salary, family issues, pension, insurance etc.
